Acne face wash
Acne face wash is the most overpromised product in your bathroom. A cleanser can lift oil, sunscreen and sweat, and one with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide may help mild breakouts a little. It will not clear acne on its own, and scrubbing harder usually backfires. Here is what a wash can do, what to skip, and how to wash with active breakouts.

Acne face wash FAQ
Can a face wash cause acne?
Sometimes, indirectly. A harsh wash can leave skin irritated and inflamed, which can make breakouts look and feel worse, and some heavy or fragranced formulas don't suit everyone. Most acne, though, comes from oil, clogged pores, bacteria and hormones, not your cleanser. If breakouts started right after a switch, stop the new product and see what changes.
Can face wash remove acne?
Not on its own. A cleanser sits on your skin for under a minute, so it mostly removes surface oil and grime. Washes with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide may help mild acne a bit, but stubborn or painful breakouts usually need a leave-on treatment or a dermatologist visit.
Why is my acne face wash not working?
Usually because cleanser is the smallest part of an acne routine. Contact time is short, results take weeks, and moderate or cystic acne often needs prescription treatment. Give a new routine several weeks unless it irritates your skin. If nothing shifts after that, a dermatologist can tell you what is actually going on.
How often should you wash your face with acne?
Twice a day, plus after heavy sweating, is the standard advice. Washing more than that rarely helps and can dry out and irritate skin, which makes acne treatments harder to tolerate. Use lukewarm water and your fingertips, skip scrubbing tools, and pat dry with a clean towel instead of rubbing.
Which ingredient is best in an acne face wash?
Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are the two standard over-the-counter acne ingredients. Salicylic acid tends to suit oily skin and blackheads. Benzoyl peroxide targets inflamed pimples but can dry skin and bleach fabric. Start with one, not both, and keep the rest of your routine gentle.
