PDRN

PDRN serum is the skincare product built around DNA fragments, usually from salmon, that moved from Korean clinics onto every shelf. The pitch is repair, glow and bounce. The catch is that the strongest research is on injections, not serums, so topical results are far less certain. Here is what PDRN is, how to use it, which ones are worth a look, and who should skip it.

PDRN FAQ

What is PDRN serum?

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide, a mix of DNA fragments most often sourced from salmon. Serums add it for hydration, soothing and skin-repair claims. Most of the clinical research we know of involves injections, so what a topical serum actually does is much less established.

Does PDRN serum actually work?

Possibly a little, but the evidence is thin. Injectable PDRN has been studied for wound healing, and brands borrow that story. Solid proof that a store-bought serum does the same is lacking, so expect a hydrating, soothing serum rather than a clinic-level change.

Can you use PDRN serum with retinol?

Probably. PDRN is not an exfoliating acid and is usually formulated as a gentle, hydrating product, and we know of no data showing a conflict. A sensible approach is retinol at night, PDRN on other nights or in the morning, and backing off if you get stinging or peeling.

Is PDRN serum safe with a fish allergy?

Check with an allergist first. PDRN is usually salmon-derived, and we can't say how a particular product's processing affects allergen content. Look for the source on the label, patch test on your inner arm, and skip it if you have a history of severe seafood allergy.

How often should you use PDRN serum?

Follow the directions on your specific product. Most are applied once or twice a day after cleansing and toner, before moisturizer. Research has not established a standard dose or frequency for topical PDRN, so start with once daily and see how your skin reacts.
