Editorial standards
Evidence first
We base health claims on human research wherever it exists — randomized controlled trials, meta-analyses and systematic reviews — and we cite it. When the only evidence is from animal or lab studies, small trials, or observational data, we say so in the article. We do not claim that any supplement or cosmetic diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents disease.
Sources and citations
Articles list their primary sources, usually linked to PubMed or the publisher. Some of our ingredient coverage is adapted from research compiled by partner publications; when that is the case, the article credits and links to the original.
Medical review
Articles that have been reviewed by a credentialed clinician or registered dietitian say so in the byline, with the reviewer’s name and credentials. Articles without a reviewer named have been edited by our editorial team.
Independence
Our editors choose what to cover and what to recommend. Advertisers and affiliate partners do not review or approve our coverage. When we earn a commission from a link, we say so — see our affiliate disclosure.
Updates and corrections
We revisit articles as new research is published. The “Updated” date on an article changes only when we make a meaningful change to its substance. If you believe we got something wrong, email hello@artifactarticles.com; we correct errors promptly and note significant corrections in the article.
